Exploring Saint Peter’s Basilica

A few weeks ago, our group of Education Majors took on Saint Peter’s Basilica and not only toured it, but had the opportunity to explore the underground excavation of Saint Peter. We started by touring the ruins on many different graves and burials underground the Basilica. Soon after entering the excavation, we were introduced to the place where they believe Saint Peters’ body was originally buried. Through a small crevice in the wall, a light shone to his burial spot. The Holy Doors in Italy

A few weeks ago, our group took a tour of St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. While the entire church was completely breathtaking, there was another aspect that we got to experience that not many other people would normally have the chance to do. That experience was the Holy Doors. There are four sets of Holy Doors in Italy: St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran, the Basilica of St. Mary the Great, and the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Wall, all located in Rome.
